Our February 2004-born cow Shadwell Jayne Erica, by Shadwell Emperor, won the cow class at the Royal Norfolk Show under judge Carolyn Fletcher and then went on to take the reserve overall female championship. Our yearling bull Shadwell jochum, who is by our senior herd sire Muirhall Total Deal stood third in a very competitive class.

June 2010: Shadwell Aberdeen-Angus at Suffolk County Show
The Shadwell Aberdeen-Angus show were back on the show circuit and attended the Suffolk County Show with a cow and calf and to yearling bulls. Our cow, Shadwell Jayne Erica, a February 2004-born daughter of Shadwell Emperor stood second in the cow and calf class. In a competitive junior bull class we took a third with Shadwell Jocham, a March 2009-born son of our senior stock bull Muirhall Total Deal and a fifth place with another Total Deal son Shadwell Jordan Eric. Our next show will be the East of England in a couple of weeks time.
May 2010: Shadwell all set for busy show season
Having had a break from showing for the last year, Shadwell Aberdeen-Angus are returning to the show circuit and will be attending the Suffolk, East of England and Royal Norfolk Shows. The show team consists of a yearling heifer by Ranui Impact out of our Rosa Erica V33 of Penguin cow, a Feb 2004-bron cow by Shadwell Emperor out of a HF Richochet 99F daughter who will be shown with her heifer calf at foot by Muirhall Total Deal and then two yearling bulls by Total Deal again. We look forward to seeing as many of you at the shows as possible.
January 2010: Shadwell welcomes new stockman Robert Clarke
For the past 20 years Robert Clarke has had a successful working association with pedigree Herefords, initially with the Badlingham herd and then incorporating both the Hermitage and Hillrow herds. During this time, success in the ring has been obtained at many shows including prestigious ones such as the Royal Show and the National Show at Tenbury.
Having gained respect within the Hereford Society, Robert says it has been an honour to be invited to judge at county shows as well as Society sales at Roscommon and Hereford.
Regarding taking up the post of stockman at Shadwell Robert says: “I am looking forward to the new challenge of working with the Shadwell herd and want to continue to use the best genetics available to successfully compete against the top herds, while also keeping a focus on what the commercial market needs by breeding easy calving and easy fleshing cattle. I am looking forward to meeting experienced Aberdeen Angus breeders and striking up new acquaintances at summer shows.”
July 2009: Shadwell Pam G328 reserve champion at Royal Norfolk Show
It was a show that could have been destined for disaster as Shadwell’s stockman Tony Miller suffered a dislocated shoulder when out exercising cattle at the show, but fortunately haulier Mark Harrison stepped in to his shoes to show the cattle at this year’s Royal Norfolk Show.
All turned out well in the end as our two year old heifer Shadwell Pam G328 took the reserve championship under judge Robert Venner. Pam is by Lockerley Bruno C270 and out of Shadwell Pam Z019 and narrowly missed out on the champion top spot behind Alex McLaren’s senior bull – congratulations to the McLaren family.
Also in our show team was our two year old bull Shadwell Elfin G332 who is by our senior stock bull Muirhall Total Deal E009 and out of Shadwell Elf E204, he stood second behind the McLaren’s bull. Our yearling bull Shadwell Black Borodin also stood third in a tough class. He is also by Total Deal and is out of Shadwell Blackbird D173.
We now have a break in the show season and will be out with a larger team at Edenbridge and Oxted Show before heading to Newbury for the Aberdeen-Angus National Show in September.
June 2009: Shadwell Elfin wins native interbreed championship at Suffolk Show
Our first show of the season proved to be an incredible result for us as 21 month old Shadwell Elfin G332 took the Aberdeen-Angus championship as well as going one better by taking the native interbreed championship.
It’s always good to win with a homebred animal, but to hear from the interbreed judge and fellow Angus breeder Euan Brewis, Eastfield, that Elfin is “a tremendous young bull with great muscle and movement – a credit to the breed” was particularly pleased.
Elfin is by our senior stock bull Muirhall Total Deal E009 and out of Shadwell Elf E204, a dam that has a tremendous pedigree, including Justin Eric X47 of Blelack, Royal Added Value 19d and Blackbird T22 of Blelack.
Also in the show team was a yearling bull Shadwell Black Borodin H349, a February 08 bull by Muirhall Total Deal E009 out of Shadwell Blackbird D173, who stood second and a two year old heifer Shadwell Pam G328, who is by Lockerley Bruno C270 out of Shadwell Pam Z019, who has both Dalrene Cruz and TLA Northern Samurai in her pedigree.
Our next show will be the Royal Norfolk Show in the beginning of July.
March 2009: All set for a busy summer show season
We’re gearing up for this year’s show season and after much consideration have selected this year’s team. Last year was a pretty miserable year in terms of showing with bluetongue movement restrictions meaning we didn’t show at all. This year we plan to take a yearling heifer, two two-year old heifers, an intermediate bull and possibly a cow and calf to Suffolk, South of England, Norfolk, Edenbridge and Oxted and Newbury. We look forward to catching up with other breeders at these shows and hopefully will be able to report back with great success.
March 2009: Shadwell Red Jay Eric F259 heads to Dumfries
We’d like to wish Mrs McKaine of Dumfries the best of luck with her first purchase from Shadwell. Heading to Scotland with her will be Shadwell Red Jay Eric F259, by Lockerely Bruno out of Jayne Erica W48 of Blelack. Aged 3 years and 2 months old, this bull is incredibly well fleshed with immense muscle and length. He has been used successfully on a few red Shadwell cows and will no doubt produce strong calves for Mrs. McKeine. She also bought one of our older red cows Shadwell Red Frances.
February 2009: Total Deal son heads to Wiltshire
Another Total Deal son leaves Shadwell and heads to Wiltshire. Shadwell Eagle G333 out of Shadwell Eyre E224 has sold in a private deal to Howard Smith, Salisbury, Wiltshire. Eagle had been entered for the February Perth Bull Sales, but was sold shortly before to run with 40 pedigree cows and 40 commercial cows. We wish Mr Smith every success with his purchase and look forward to regular sales in the future.
February 2009: Balmachie Brigadier G044 joins Shadwell as new herd sire
Shadwell Estates are delighted to announce the arrival of new herd sire Balmachie Brigadier G044. Bred in Messrs J F Lascelles successful herd at Carnoustie, Angus, we bought Brigadier for £16,000 in a private deal back in November. Sired by Cudlobe Yellowstone out of Netherton Belle C219, he was bought for his depth of pedigree, power and fleshing ability. He also has a fantastic set of legs and feet on him and will hopefully compliment Total Deal sired females. We are incredibly excited to see how he works in the herd and may even show him at the Aberdeen-Angus official show at Newbury in September this year.
